Trailer for Lent: Our Four Themes

Here’s a preview, minus the voiceover and all the explosions, of Lent at Trinity. This year our community will engage four themes: Temptation, Calling, Forgiveness, and Sight. In the Parish Hall right now there four bulletin boards are ready for us to use to post our ideas and insights on these topics. The four themes are based on the scripture readings for the first four Sundays of Lent, and we will be engaging them sequentially in worship and discussion, but that doesn’t mean you have to! Make it part of your Lenten observance to consider the questions these themes suggest, and post pictures and musings about any of the four themes any time. Here are some ideas to get you going:

Temptation: What does a temptation look like (pictures, please!)? Why should it matter if we are tempted by food or fun? Aren’t a lot of temptations harmless? How could these temptations symbolize or embody our tendency to settle for less?

Calling: What are you doing because you are a Christian? Do you think there is something in particular that God wants you to do? What about creating a visual to illustrate the work you are doing or the risks you are taking in the name of Christ?

Forgiveness: What makes this idea so important to Christians? Do you think you really need to be forgiven? Have you ever forgiven someone? How did you do it?

Sight: As you follow Christ, have you found your opinions or priorities changing? Has faith impacted your judgments or relationship? What looks different to you? How does Christ change the way we see the world and our neighbors?

Pictures and insights are welcome on our board. Take time, observe Lent.
