Advent Procession

Trinity’s most important Advent service, featuring Choristers and Choir, and all their heavenly music. It’s an event not to be missed, so get that on the calendar as well: Sunday, December 2, 5pm.

This years Advent procession, presented by the Parish Choir, Choristers, Acolytes, Readers and Mother Meg will take place on Sunday evening, December 2nd at 5:00.  Presented in the English Tradition, the Choirs and Acolytes process throughout the church by candlelight, stopping in each corner, at the baptismal Fount and in the Sanctuary to read lessons and sing beautiful music. The lights gradually reappear as the choir finishes the service with a big, magnificent Magnificat and Nunc Dimittis by Charles Stanford. This year’s music includes A prelude and Ave Maria with our wonderful violinist, Annette Taupier. The prelude is the haunting “Gabriel’s Oboe” from the movie “The Mission”. The choristers will sing a piece called “Light of Light” and the choir will sing one of the most famous pieces from the Renaissance, “O Magnum Mysterium” by Spanish composer Thomas Victoria. A work, “Lighten Our Darkness” based on an old English folk song arranged by David Lewis, will be sung as well as a rousing and folksy song telling the story of the Angel Gabriel by composer Bob Chilcott. The is one of the most beautiful services Trinity has to offer. I can assure you that no one in this county does it better. There is no communion or sermon, only lessons, prayers and lots of gorgeous music. It is stunning to watch as the choirs process in the darkness. The Procession lasts just over an hour and there is a reception following. This is THE perfect way to start your Christmas season, in peace and beauty. Do plan on attending…and bring a friend.

PS…You can then attend the concert of Christmas music presented here at Trinity a week later by the choirs of the Escondido Arts Center. But only if you attend OUR program first !!!

After all…you can’t have Christmas unless you prepare for it in Advent.

I heard that from Mother Meg once, I think.
