9:30 pm - 12:00 pm
Trinity Episcopal Church
After Maundy Thursday, Trinity begins a time of vigil, observed both as a community and alone.
On that night, as Jesus waited in the Garden, he prayed, knowing that the end was at hand and that soldiers were on their way to arrest him. While he asked his disciples to stay with him, supporting him by their presence and prayers, they could not. Weighed down by grief at what was happening, so the Gospel writers say, the disciples fell asleep. Perhaps they did not entirely grasp the situation, or maybe they were just trying to avoid facing it. At any rate, they could not watch with Jesus. At Trinity, we take this time to do what those first disciples could not. We can because we share the burden. Trinity members are invited to spend 1/2 at the Altar of Repose, sometime between 9:30 on Thursday night and noon on Good Friday. Most of those hours are the wee ones, but working together, we can keep this watch.
