Advent Procession of Lessons and Carols

from Trinity's Photo Archives

Sunday, December 9:

This Procession, with lessons and carols of Advent, is meant to demonstrate the pilgrimage of the Church as the Body of Christ on its journey through time and space, a journey in faith until God's kingdom and reign of peace have been established on earth. It is symbolically spreading the Light of Christ to the lost and darkened world.

The Procession moves to every corner of the church, proclaiming through scripture and music, the Advent of the Savior. It recalls the coming of Jesus as the infant child in Bethlehem twenty centuries ago, and exhorts the peoples of the earth to prepare for His coming in majesty as King and judge on the last day. This double emphasis on both the first and second Advent of Christ gives to the Advent season, and to this procession, a unique mixture of devotional color.

The destination of this Procession is the Sanctuary of the church, the "Holy Hill" on which stands the altar, decked in holy light, representing the presence of Christ in the midst of His people.

The congregation joins in this witness and preparation by carefully attending to the texts and designated portions of this service.
