What Parish Life Is All About
TRINITY'S VISION: To be a community that enjoys gathering together, knows about and responds to needs in members' lives, works to find ways for all to be involved, and expresses gratitude for that work.
Celebration of Ministry
|
| During an Epiphany celebration of ministries, parishioners brought forward objects symbolizing their individual ministries and placed them on the altar. The objects were saved for later display and presentation. It was an appropriate celebration for two reasons. First, the Epiphany season recalls the beginning of Jesus' ministry, how the Messiah became visible to the world. It is through our ministry that Jesus is visible in the world today. Second, on the last Sunday of Epiphany we hear the story of the Transfiguration, how Jesus was revealed in glory to his disciples. When we offer our service to God's Kingdom, our efforts are transformed by the Holy Spirit, allowing us to serve in ways we do not always intend or comprehend. |
SPIRITUAL SUPPORT GROUPS
Daughters of the King: Trinity's chapter of this international Anglican Order for women, members attempt to follow a vow of regular prayer, study and service. The Daughters fulfill these vows at Trinity by acting as the parish godparents to all children baptized at Trinity and by overseeing the Parish Library. Learn more at the national Daughters of the King web site.
Order of St. Luke: This is an international and ecumenical organization devoted to the healing message of Christianity. Members meet monthly to learn about and practice healing prayer. The Order also sponsors healing "missions," or weekend conferences, on a regular basis. More information available at the Order of St. Luke web site.
Intercessory Prayer: The group meets weekly at 9:00am each Wednesday. A member of the group is available each Sunday following the 10:00am service for private prayer with individual worshippers if desired.
Wednesday Bible Study: The group meets weekly from 11:00am until 12:30pm each Wednesday. Sessions begin with a time of fellowship followed by a discussion of the Gospel reading for the following Sunday.
Cursillo: A weekend retreat is the centerpiece of the Cursillo movement, sponsored by the Diocese of San Diego. Cursillo aims to renew existing faith with a new appreciation for the presence of Christ in daily life and work. Members of Trinity who have participated in the Cursillo weekend meet in small groups for prayer and mutual support. For more information, check the Cursillo diocesan web site.
SERVICE GROUPS
Rotational Shelter: Each winter Trinity hosts the North County Rotational Shelter for two weeks. Guests take comfort in parish hospitality while they work on job skills and seek employment. There are many ways to serve: helping with set-up and take-down, providing dinner and breakfast, serving as host or hostess overnight or providing transportation.
Pastoral Care Volunteers: These volunteers meet monthly for support and training in their ministry. Pastoral Care Volunteers visit and befriend nursing home residents and others who are homebound. They also offer rides to church activities and doctors' appointments and cook meals for families with new babies and those just out of the hospital. This is a group that knows how to care!
Fellowship Teams: Eating together is a favorite Trinity activity. Fellowship ministers prepare and serve the food for our monthly breakfasts and for other occasional gatherings. Too many cooks never spoil anything!
Audio Ministry: Each sermon and selected music events are recorded and placed on the parish web site so that all may enjoy. Cassettes and CDs of the sermons are available upon request for those who don't access the internet.
Worship Ministries: Chalice Bearers, lectors, ushers, greeters and acolytes all put together our Sunday services, the centerpiece of our community. These ministers gather regularly for practice and communication.
Altar and Flower Guilds: Each week teams get the altar area ready for Sunday and other worship services. Some do the creative work of preparing flower arrangements, while others provide diligent service in preparing the vestments and vessels for Holy Communion.
Habitat for Humanity: This is a new outreach ministry at Trinity. Parishioners volunteer their time and have fun together helping to build a home for deserving families. It's a wonderful way to practice our religion. Contact Jackie Lansing.
Parish Communications: If we don't know about it, we can't be a part of it. Our parish newsletter and web site serve as important means of getting the word out. Opportunities to serve are multi-fold. For the newsletter: contributing, editing, production, folding and mailing. For the web site: contributing, web site design, and maintenance. Be a part of this vital service to our parish.
Kairos: The Kairos ministry plans and leads semi-annual weekend ministry sessions in the Donovon prison. Through a simple "cookie ministry" approach, many inmates discover and accept Jesus Christ on each of the weekends. One can participate by helping to bake the cookies or serving on the prison team.
Trinity Toy Makers: Trinity Toy Makers construct a variety of wooden toys that are distributed through ICS to needy children in our community.
Buildings & Grounds: Upkeep of parish facilities is vital to all ministries at Trinity. Workdays are scheduled outdoor pruning and painting and indoor cleanup and painting. Some parishioners volunteer for specific tasks, completing them regularly at their own convenience.
SOCIAL GROUPS
Friday Night at the Movies: Several parishioners gather on the first Friday of the month for a fun evening of movie watching and light-hearted discussion.
The Duffers: Golf, anyone? Whatever your handicap, join us on the links, the third Saturday of every month. Even if you don't golf, you can still join the group for dinner afterwards and hear all the "true" highlights of the game.
