Ever wondered what make the Episcopal Church different?

I'd forgotten about that article. The Episcopal Church was getting a lot of attention back then, and it wasn't all good.
I was wondering, how have things changed since that time? Also, the article mentioned only baptized and confirmed could receive communion in the Episcopal Church. Is that true?
