I am Brilliant!

Does that sound arrogant?  But in the Gospel today, Jesus tells us that we are the light of the world, so it can’t be arrogant to claim to be dazzling, can it?

What we have to remember is that it is his light we shine with, the light of his way of life.  The parts of our lives that shine with the power of mercy and compassion–that’s where we will show the way.  So my question:  How do you shine with Christ’s light?  Be brave and answer the question–it’s not bragging because it’s not about you!

  1. I loved the sermon today, which is not that unusual. I went home singing “This little light of mine, I’m gonna let it shine, Let it shine, let is shine let it shine. One of the ways that I let Christ’s light shine is by sharing my faith and journey via social media. I use my page as a way to encourage and remind my “friends’ of the power of Love, Hope and joy. I share encouraging quotes, thoughts and examples of how I strive to model “Love our neighbor as ourselves”, to share examples of how I strive to reach out to those less fortunate, to provide a bit of encouragement to someone who is feeling hopeless. I provide invitations to my friends to join the Trinity community for special services in hopes that I am contributing to bringing the people to Christ. I share my own personal struggles in a way that I hope will model how my relationship and journey with GOD coupled with my commitment to my church community supports me as I make my way. I strive to remind people that every day is a blessing, a gift. I also share my disciplined approach to understanding God’s love. I have done that through such things as sharing my lenten habits, my choosing of a word of the year, which I use as a focus for becoming closer to GOD. When people ask for prayers, I immediately pray sometimes recording that prayer in writing ( post it, send it via email) or even better, ask for permission to pray with the person right then and there. My faith is something that I am able to share more easily with each passing year. God is most definitely a presence in my daily life. I hope to move from being a 50 watt to a 100 watt light bulb for Christ as I move forward in my understanding of the power of God’s love.

  2. I am brilliant:
I am very good at hearing the words my staff say, but also at reading between the lines about how they are feeling – whether they are upset, afraid, disappointed, gleeful, joyous, bored, sick, or whatever. I am able to “meet” them where they are before they have had a chance to formulate “it”. So, I guess that makes me a “brilliant” listener/leader for my peeps.
I am also “brilliant” at delivering criticism in a cooperative way so that as a team the employee and I can move on from here. I can somehow make the employee want to improve rather than curl up in a defensive ball. So, I am a “brilliant” coach who listens with my heart and brings sensitivity and the certainty of team support to an issue.
I do not like saying any of this. I am only answering becasue you asked us to in yesterday’s sermon!
